Chinese ExclusionThesis
The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed because Chinese workers were better workers and they had plenty of money and more to eat and jobs which was better than whites. Background The Chinese Exclusion was a big problem the United States faced in the 1800's. The Chinese Exclusion was during 1866-1892. Chinese Immigrants were migrating to the United States to work in gold mines, take agricultural jobs, and to work in factories. Evidence/warrant#1: “But the trouble is that the Chinese are such excellent and faithful workers that bosses will have no other when they can get them."(document D) When a immigrant works better than an American and take their jobs then Americans will pass an exclusion act. Evidence/warrant#2: “Chinaman plenty work, plenty money, plenty to eat. White man no work, no money, die - sabee?”(Document A)When an immigrant has plenty money and food to eat then Americans will pass an exclusion act Rebuttal Many people might say that that the Chinese Exclusion Act was cause by americans trying to protect the chinese from the irish and the german.(Document B) But their wrong because Chinese are taking jobs from the German and the Irish. The chinese took all the jobs from them. ”Today, every avenue to labor, of every sort, is crowded with Chinese slave labor worse than it was eight years ago.” Significance This is significant because it was the one law that limited rights of immigration. And it took away the rights of people who America at one point vowed to keep. |
